TEACHING and COUNSELING of clients and their families may be implemented by the LPN utilizing an established teaching plan/protocol as assigned by the registered nurse, physician or other qualified professional licensed to practice in Appropriate states. The LPN participates in teaching and counseling as listed in the LPN rules in Paragraph (h) by: • Providing accurate and consistent information, demonstrations, and guidance to clients, their families or significant others regarding the client’s health status and health care in order to o increase knowledge o assist the client to reach an optimum level of health functioning and participation in self-care o promote the client’s ability to make informed decisions; • Collecting evaluative data and reporting this to the RN or other authorized person.
the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) includes:

- Collecting and charting vital signs
- Distributing oral medications
- Checking blood sugar levels
- Assisting with activities of daily living (such as getting dressed or eating/drinking)
- Changing bandages, catheters, or IVs
- Feeding and assisting patients who are unable to do so themselves
- Keeping detailed records of patients’ overall health
Reporting any changes in patients’ health to doctors and nurses
